Which brings up a basic point in baseball management: injuries happen, particularly to pitchers.
Pavano was a pretty good young pitcher three years ago. He had double-digit wins for the Marlins, and won a key game in the World Series. A few teams were interested in him. Then, boom, his arm falls off, so to speak. He's never the same and essentially loses three years.
And if you think this only happens to the Yankees, consider Matt Clement. He was an all-star in his first year as a Red Sox, got hit by a line drive, then hurt his arm and never contributed anything after that. But teams are talking to him this winter, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle.
It's a tough business.

For the first poster.dude roger clemens helped us make the playoffs idiot. We were sending out rookies earlier in the season until Roger came. Now if you going to tell me that Deslavo was going to be much better then you belong in a nut case buddy.
Well in baseball you have these bad signings like pavano's once a while. However signings like these don't hurt the yankees as much as other teams obviously

they'd blame Pavano, yet they don't have the best to. I mean, Pavano dominates the Tigers. 4-0 a million.sixty 9 era vs them in his profession. Why no longer initiate him? against some rookie from the Tigers minors (even however his final initiate became spectacular), youd think of the Twinkies have been loving the matchup. The Twins had super scoring opportunities early and did no longer capatalize, they can't blame Pavano. inspite of each thing, it is ONE game out of 162. different pitchers lost different video games and offense lost others. it is not this ONE loss that harm them :)

Sounds like a typical Yankee siginig to me. They need him to move to the minors to make room on the 40 man roster since he won't be able to pitch until the summer, at least. He is STILL owed $11mil for next year and has an option for 2009 (w/ a $1.5 mil buy out)

Injuries will do that to you and the agent of Pavano will make sure he remains on the active roster. Sorry the Yankees are stuck with it.

well, that just goes to show how stupid the yankee mentality was when they signed him, they wanted to keep him from Boston, so they offered him a ton of money, he had been ok in montreal, but he had never had a season that warranted that kind of money
hopefully pavano refuses a minor league contract

Yes, its a joke but this is merely pennies to the Yankees..They can afford to give this kind of garbage 40 million and just cut him, cause I don't think he'll be accepting that minor league contract.
