The bot fly larvae burrows into human skin, where it feeds and completes its growth. The adult fly first lays its eggs on a live mosquito. When the mosquito feeds on a human, the fly eggs hatch and the larvae dig into the skin. Gross, I know. Human bot flies are only found in the tropics.

You're probably thinking of the infamous "Botfly."; " El Torsalo" or "El Boro" as South Americans call them.

There are many species of parasitic flies from several genera, in the family *Oestridae* which attack mammals. Some are serious problems in sheep, horses, and cattle.

Only one species attacks humans, *Dermatobia hominis.* D. hominis is only native to the new world tropics. It is rare enough that it is not much of a pest. D hominis usually attacks monkeys. In humans it has not found a very cooperating host, humans usually kill or remove the larvae before they can finish growing, thus ending the cycle of infection.

There are no insects in North America that burrow all the way down through someone's skin and into their stomach. Have you seen bites on her and holes in her clothes? Sounds like the doc is correct--your grandma is delusional and she should be seeing a geriatrics doctor or be on the proper medications so she won't be delusional.

If you literally mean "bug" as in the group Insecta, it could be a fly larva, that becomes an adult after emerging.
