move log to one side and get
log(11x+9/x+3)=3
1000=11x+9/x+3
1000x+3000=11x+9
989=-2991
x=-2991/989

log(11x + 9) = 3 + log(x+3)
if log y = 3 then y = anti-log(3) = 20.0855
so, log(11x+9) = log (20.0855) + log (x+3)
log(11x + 9) = log(20.0855(x+3))
11x + 9 = 20.0855x + 60.2566
9.0855x = - 51.2566
x = - 5.6416

log (11x + 9) - log(x + 3) = 3
log ( (11x + 9) / (x + 3) ) = 3
(11x + 9) / (x + 3) = 8 (taking log to base 2)
11x + 9 = 8x + 24
3x = 15
x = 5

Jason's answer is right.

By the way, at x=-2991/989, the left and right hand side of your original equation are complex. That's why you don't see an intersection when you graph it.
