Willie Nelson's album "Yesterday's Wine" starts off with willie saying this...

"You do know why you're here?"

"Yes. There's great confusion on earth, and the Power that is has concluded the following: Perfect man has visited earth already, and his voice was heard. The voice of imperfect man must now be made manifest, and I have been selected as the most likely candidate."

"The time is april, therefore you, a taurus, must go. to be born under the same sign twice adds strength. this strength, combined with wisdom and love, is the key."

Can someone try to explain what the heck this is talking about? I am trying to figure out if this is talking about Christ or some other religion? Was Willie on weed when he wrote this?

What does he mean "under the same sign twice" and "I have been selected as the most likely candidate"?

Thanks!

Miracles appear in the strangest of places,
fancy meeting you here
The last time I saw you was just out of HOuston,
set down, let me buy you a beer

Your presence is welcome with me and my friend here
this is a hangout of mine
we come here quite often and listen to music
partaking on yesterdays wine

Yesterdays wine, I'm yesterdays wine, aging with time like yesterdays wine
Yesterdays wine, we;re yesterdays wine, aging with time, like yesterdays wine

You give the appearance of one wisely traveled
i've bet youve seen things in your time
so sit down beside me and tell me your story
if you think you'll like yesterdays wine

Yesterdays wine, we're yesterdays wine a...(repeats three times) sorry I didn't feel like typing it out again.

There may be a few boo boo's there but I only listened once but you can see that there is no similarity in what you have above.

I would be interested in hearing the song you have listed if you can find the correct name to it for me. I usually have to hear the entire song in order to get a better analysis of the lyrics and meanings.

Hi Joseph, I do not have that particular album. I had Yesterday's wine on the "Essential's" album but Idid find it and listen to the song "Where's The Show/Let Me Be A Man' several times to try and come up with a crude analysis of what my interpretation is

The spoken part of the intro is two men asking the statement with Willy responding as you have stated above and then goes into Willie SInging Let Me Be A Man. what I am gathering from it is that they pose a question with biblical references being that Jesus was historically a Taurus born on Apr 17 and I take it that they are saying or Willie is taking on the persona of the Lord's "Messenger" born again under the same sign (Taurus) and as "the Lord" has walked the earth already, he (the messenger)has come to spread the word of 'man" rather than the word to man but he is asking in the lyrics as to what his purpose is on earth in relation to doing that and that it is his wish to take the presence of a typical man. You may read some inference as to his asking to be a simple man, living and working among the common man in order to be at their side

I will post the lyrics as I heard them from listening and maybe someone else can give you thier interpretation also.

Lyrics...
Spoken…
You do know why you’re here?
Willie…
Yes, there’s great confusion on earth and the power that IS has concluded the following…
Perfect man has visited earth already and his voice was heard. The voice of imperfect man must now be made manifest and I have been selected as most likely candidate.

Spoken…
Yes, the time is April and therefore you, a Taurus must go…
to be born under the same sign twice adds strength and this strength combined with wisdom and love is the key.

Singing…
Explain again to me lord why I’m here…I don’t know, I don’t know
The setting for the stage is still not clear…where’s the show…where’s the show
Let it begin, let it begin
I am born...can you use me….

What would you have me to do lord… Shall I sing them a song?
I could tell them all about you lord, I could write all the loves I have known
I’ll work in their cotton and corn fields, I promise to do all I can
I’ll laugh and I’ll cry, Ill live til I die, please lord let me be a man

Dear lord let me be a man and Ill give it all I can
If Im needed in this distant land, please lord let me a man

Before I begin this elaborate journey, portraying earth’s typical man…
Last minute instructions would surely be welcome, please lord let me hold to your hand
Dear lord let me be man..
