A prepared slide is a permanent mount of a specimen that you take out of the slide case or cabinet and look at. It's all ready to go.

Contrast this with a slide you make yourself just before you examine it.

A prepared slide is slide that either contains the whole specimen, such as microbes or parts of structures such as organs in longitudinal sections or cross sections. These sections are preparped by slicing a part of something very thinly.
