i like the softness of cake, so i don't like anything hard on it. if there are sprinkles, you have to chew more.
same with the hot chocolate. i don't like eating my drinks, so no marshmallows

I like sprinkles on cakes. Marshmallows in hot chocolate... well, small marshies would be acceptable only. I think they give off a good foamy look.

I adore marshmallows in my hot chocolate (the miniature kind of course, not the full-size ones). But as for the sprinkles...I only like them on ice cream and donuts.

I agree with you completely on the cupcake thing but I like marshmallows but I use the small ones so usually they melt before I start to drink it

If your hot chocolate is the right temperature, then the marshmallows should melt nicely on the top, all frothy and gooey, and creamy...mmmm...
Sprinkles? Hmmm... it depends. I definitely don't like them on donuts, and I wouldn't choose to put them on a cupcake. I like different toppings like nut crumbles, or chocolate shavings...mmmm...
