Limewire is not illegal, but downloading music "for free" is illegal. So, there's a strange paradox that goes on between using Limewire and downloading music on it. Also, technically, you are sharing music on Limewire with others, and consequentially they aren't making money off of your downloading--which is a good thing for the money-sucking record companies. Anyways, use at your own discretion.

Limewire is legal as long as you use it for legal purposes. If you start downloading illegal stuff off there then although Limewire is still legal, you are breaking the law with it. For example owning a hammer is legal, but using it to bash someone's brains out is illegal although the hammer itself is still legal you have broken the law with it.

I paid for the privledge of using Limewire. My understanding (and I may be wrong) is that downloading the music is not illegal, but uploading them and sharing the music with other people is. Makes no sense, for sure, but that is the way I've heard it explained.

No. Limewire is a website where you can exchange files. Now somebody out there could send a file which is illegal such as a copy protected file, but it's not LIMEWIRE that's illegal, it's what you do with it.

Is it illegal to have a Honda sporty car? No... is it illegal to street race a Honda, yes. Do I anyway, yes.

Limewire is a peer to peer file sharing program that is in all means legal. But if you choose to download load a song movie or program with it then its copy write infringement and yes if they F.B.I catches you then it is illegal

But if you want music movie and programs (esp programs) look in to bittorrents and use those thier safer becasue the F.B.I can't track you unless they are hosting the file you dl and u'll know if they are because their will be no seeders (uplaoders) and no peers (downloaders) but bittorents are 10000000X safer than lime wire esp when it comes to viruses in the bittorent community ppl will comment on the file saying if its clean and theirs also trusted uploaders (seeders) you'll learn to get most of your media from

but if you doo go with lime wire DONT DOWNLOAD ANY PROGRAMS THEY ****ALL**** have a virus of some sort on them. music and pics you shouldn't be able to get a virus but im not sure a bout movie they have movies that open up web sites in ur webbroswer when you open them they've got to havea virus

It's not illegal to use peer to peer networks, but everybody knows that tons of illegal material is passed around. So, it's kinda confusing. Alot of the fake files you get, well those are created by companies to deter you from getting the copyrighted information. It's a war.

Only if you download or share copyrighted materials...I'm not aware that limewire itself is illegal.

Depends. If you download something like a song, but it was not put on there with the artist's consent the it is illegal. YOu pretty much need consent of the creator to be legally downloading it.
