Ostensibly, a contradiction in terms... Just kidding, that's a little joke for the rock snobs.

I'd probably say Nirvana, the Melvins, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr (they were grunge before grunge was grunge!)

Anybody who answers with a band like Candlebox or Alice in Chains really needs to be placed in a burlap sack and beaten with reeds while being forced to listen to the "Screaming Life/FOPP" EP on repeat for days...
