It definitely set the stage for the modern Democrat party. Controlled by extreme left-wing wackos. They despise the military and loves when they suffer defeat. Even when they don't lose they declare the military defeated...a la Senator Harry Reid..."the Iraq war has been lost"...they will not be able to elect a President for many years to come unless they make drastic changes.

Hardly. They certainly contributed to Nixon's victory that year, but they also played a major role in ending the Vietnam War and the draft. And the Democrats have elected presidents since then, and more than once held a majority in Congress. I'd say they're doing fine.
