I want to get a degree in applied mathematics, and then become an actuary, and then go to a top notch MBA program, and then become an investment banker. Does this sound good

What have other people done between undergrad and MBA school

Your plan is a good one. Don't worry about what other people do. Top MBA programs take people with a broad range of backgrounds.

I have an undergraduate degree in mathematics, did graduate work (without a degree) in Math and Philosophy, and worked at I-Banks before going back to school for my MBA (Duke) and PhD in FInance (Berkeley).

Math and actuarial science will be good preparation.
