Hey everyone I am a 16 year old male and I absolutely love swimming and I think it is brilliant. I normally go about once a week for an hour, however, from now on ( seeing I have quite a lot of spare time on my hands at the moment ) I am going to increase the amount of going to 5 days a week so that is the equivalent of 5 hours a week.
I have quite a few questions so I would greatly appreciate if you could answer and give me some advice and tips:
Do you get results?
Will I be more toned, muscular or buff?
Will this help out with my fitness AND
Any other benefits from doing this? ( Please mention them)
Cheers Guys!

You need to push yourself, but it is great. You get fitness and toning without the shock and jarring that running might give you.

You might also wish to throw in aerobis to firm up as well

Do you get results? Yes. Provided you REALLY swim -- as in an organized workout of laps and varied strokes.

Will I be more toned, muscular or buff? Yes.

Will this help out with my fitness? Yes.

Any other benefits from doing this? Yes. You will smell like chlorine.

You SHOULD cross train. Swimming does too much without running or other impact sports can result in loss of bone mass. Impact sports cause bone to develop and counteract that. So swim 4 times a week and run or play volleyball or basketball twice.

great question i am a swimmer myself, and the answer to your first question is yes, you will get toned, and have a great muscular shape to your body, this is because in swimming is the only sport that exercises all your muscles all at the same time
You would be able to increase your fitness and be able to do things for a longer period of time, but just because you are swimming it doesn't mean that you a fit on riding a bike or running. and you will notice that when you stop swimming for a bit, it is really hard to get back into shape to get to the fitness level you were at in the first place.
Apart from physically, swimming can affect you mentally. it clears your mind and allows you to think about what is going on in your life, and it keeps you really relaxed all through out the day.
i hope this information has helped you, and i hope you stick with it because it is a really good sport to be doing. sometime you will have days when you want to give you but you have to just keep going! good luck

You will probably see the results you mention. Swimming is a perfect non-impact full-body exercise. You will work all of the major muscle groups, boost your heart rate, and likely boost your metabolism. A higher metabolism helps to burn more calories during the work out and when you are at rest. Of course, you probably will see similar results by swimming 3 -4 times per week. Don't overdo it...you don't want to burn out or get bored with it.

From an exercise point of view, 3 times a week is sufficient. It will help with all those points you mention plus you will look attractive to girls (or boys, depending on your inclination).
