It's like the introduction to a book or the "Purpose" section of a company document. The preamble tells you the who, why and what that the following details will explain.

"We the people of the United States"... who. This part tells the King (and any other interested party) who is involved.

"in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity" This part tells the king (and any other interested party) why we were doing it.

"do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." This part tells everyone what just happened.

The preamble is a document that tells what the constitution DOES, what they were trying to accomplish, and if there was any doubt, tells everyone that this nation considers itself to be autonomous. Then the details follow.
