I usually wave.
Many of the officers are really nice friendly guys. Of course I do have a bit of an advantage being a Law Enforcement Chaplain but that does not exempt me from getting a ticket. It just entitles me to a good "chewing out" while he writes the ticket if he decides to ticket me.
I even did this when I was a truck driver (the opposition). I always figured show yourself friendly and they are more likely to be friendly if they decide to stop you. Also (and quite a few officers that I have talked to have agreed with me) until they start writing you still have a chance of talking your way out of the ticket.
Advice: The truth will usually get you farther in getting out of a ticket than trying to lie your way out. Police Officers usually have training in reading body language. They deal with people constantly, so can spot a lie a mile away AND they absolutely HATE to have anyone lie to them.

I automatically check my speed ... just a reflex ... whether I'm speeding or not. And I'm usually not, but my foot comes off the gas anyway. I've been driving for 40 years and had 1 speeding ticket, and that was in a school zone, going the regular speed and not the school zone speed (and there were NO KIDS!). It still upsets me!

Neither, I take my foot off the gas. That way I slow down gradually and without the car dipping in the front like it would if I braked. It doesn't scare the poop out of the driver behind me either. And it isn't as obvious just in case the officer was looking.

Check the speed.
If you can see the police car, they already "caught" you on their radar. If you hit the brakes, they can see the front end of your car dip down as you quickly slow your speed. Doing that probably will not help, as he's already got you.
Letting up on the gas pedal is not so obvious...or tapping the "decrease" button if you're using cruise control...

Neither one, I don't ever speed in the first place. So if I was to do anything at all, it would be to just take my foot off the gas pedal.

I don't pay any attention to them anymore. I quit speeding in the early 80s. I always go the speed limit now. Some other drivers get mad at me, but I don't care. They can go get all tickets. Or worse, an accident. I am in no rush, ever.

I slowly apply the brakes. It's not as if I'm speeding, my car goes too fast.

I say Oh S h i t! and then tap the break. Why lie? I go at least 5 miles or more over the speed limit.

Check my speed - don't usually go too much over the posted speed limit! Not as adventurous as I used to be. At my age, I cannot afford to be. CJ

I just look down and check my speed, and then I ever so s-l-o-w-l-y reach over and get my old Government Investigator
I.D. to (accidently) hand to him along with my driver's license in case he stops me for something else. heh! I haven't had a moving violation in nearly 25 years.
