It's a very pretty campus, you can walk to the ocean bluffs, and if you have a lot of energy you can hike down to blacks beach and back up. It's in a ritzy neighborhood, you'll probably want to stay in university-subsidized housing the whole time you're there (they have nice apartments).

It's an excellent school. Their EBE (environment, behavior, evolution) program is pretty good, I took some of those classes and learned a lot. If you're studying science you'll have amazing professors, and be competing for grades against very smart students. This is NOT a party school. People have study groups on Friday nights.

It's often overcast or foggy in the morning, sometimes it clears up sometimes it doesn't. The campus is covered in eucalyptus trees, and the library is named after Dr. Seuss (we got cake on his birthday). A watermelon is thrown off Urey hall every June, and a Pumpkin off the Muir dorms in October. There are talking and singing trees, and a snake path, I rather like the random art on campus.

There is no football (other than intramural) and there isn't a lot of school spirit in the sense of sports. There is a climbing wall at the gym though (I miss that).

That's all I can think of now. I'm sure some things have changed (I graduated in 2000). Good Luck!

UCSD is the third best public university in California (after Berkeley and UCLA) -- but is a top ten public university in the US. US News ranks it at #38 overall.

It is definitely a smart choice. I hate California (I got my PhD at UC-Berkeley) -- but the one place in the state that I love is San Diego. The school is in a beautiful setting.

It's definately a very nice university. and you will love it compared to conneticut, definately go there if you get accepted. The only negative is that it is not in the city of San Diego, its on the outskirts. I know multiple girls that go there and they love it, its not a huge party school like UCSB and its not a total mind consuming college like UC Berkeley. The weather and beaches are very near to perfect.

i do no longer understand why this type of wonderful style of folk like SDSU. there is not any longer something yet below the effect of alcohol teenage sluts and grimy men that screw eachother. Yea the events are cool for a sprint even with the incontrovertible fact that it gets old exceptionally whilst your on your 20's like me.
