I really like the name. It is unique and the name in its entirety has nice ring to it. I also think Amare sounds like a very strong name, not effeminate at all. I, honestly, wouldn't have thought it was a girl's name or a unisex name for that matter. However, you and your fiancee need to agree on what the name will be because after all he will be her son too.

Depending on how soon the baby is coming, you may want to keep the name in mind without pressing too hard. As the due date draws closer, if you still really like the name, suggest it again. My husband didn't like the name I wanted for our son, but I held off for a while and he eventually grew to like it.

That is a nice name! Great pick! Amare or Amari is very unique. I suggest you and the mother stick with it! The rest of the name compliments itself. Amare Christian Wilson. Beautiful.

If you have to look up a name to find out if it is for a boy or girl then it probably is not a good idea. I thought it was a girls names. Most names that are unisex end up being girls names eventually like Dana, Lynn, Kerry, Marion. A girl can get away with a boy name like Tyler, Hunter or Sean more than a boy can get away with a girl name.
I'd come up with another idea.

Its OK. I think I would like Armand Christian Wilson better-its more masculine.

Sounds girlish. If it didn't, would you and your fiancee had had the debate??

"Mare" is the Latin root of "nightmare."

It sounds trashy for either gender.
