As long as you are healthy, I see no problem with it!! If you have always been active, then stay active! I used a hoe and shovel to dig my own garden when I was 7 months preg. My boys turned out great!!! I also shoveled snow in Iceland at 6-8 months with my second!!!
My advise to you, ask your doctor!! I never did, but no one could tell me anything! I am an outdoors person!!!!

Are you really serious about shoveling while pregnant? Don't you read of all those who fall over dead while shoveling deep snow or scraping ice? Doing gym designed exercises for pregnant women is one thing. Heavy exertion in cold weather is another. The latter is not suited for pregnant exercise.

You want to make sure you're not lifting more than 25 pounds in a shovel.

Other than that, shoveling is good exercise, as long as you are used to exercise. You certainly don't want to overtax your body on top of pregnancy.

Take it easy and have someone else shovel.

I was comfortable working with a shovel in my garden into my second trimester.. I know I wouldn't have done it during my third.. there was no room for bending at all.

I think the important thing is that you do not overdo it with weight or amount of time you do it for.. and if you feel weary certainly DON'T do it!

You should not do anything too physical especially as you get closer and closer to term....birthing. There's nothing that says you cant do physical labor, but if you are really big and towards the end of your pregnancy you may have a premature birth. You dont want to do heavy stuff as it will increase your blood pressure and have negative effects on yur baby. If you are shoveling light stuff, it should b okay. Just rest more often. As always you should consult your doctor first.

Honey,
how pregnant are you?
and how healthy?Depending on your health should answer alot of questions on whether you should be over exerting yourself like that.

If you are very pregnant and want to go into labor, go ahead.
But you should be careful not to slip in the snow and land on your stomach, or anywhere for that matter.
Are you at high risk? Carryng multiples, or had miscarriages before, or pre-existing health problems, like heart conditons, etc.

Miscarriages usually happen within the first trimester or 13wks of pregnancy, and percentages lessen after13 week.....
If you don't have to, don't, if you do, see if you can get someone to check on you if you are outside by yourself.

Be careful,

Honeychild.

Shoveling what? Snow?
Is that something you would normally do? Are you in good shape otherwise?
I did it - wouldn't recommend it late in pregnancy, but early is OK - just don't overdo it.

no you really shouldn't. mild exercise is fine and very healthy, but shoveling large loads-especially with the ice we've had lately-could hurt the baby. but i was a single mom and did what i had to, dangerous or not. here's hoping you have someone else to help you!

Need more information. However, if you could do it before you were pregnant you should be okay. I would ask your gynecologist. I had problem pregnancies and so going to the grocery store was fine but I couldn't carry the grocery bags in the house or put them in the car. However, I was told exercise was fine as long as I was exercising prior to pregnancy... Hope this helps.

No I wouldn't . Shovelling involves the back, and when your pregnant the last thing you need is to strain your back. Give baby a chance-take it easy.
