My laptop has 2 RAM slots and as of now they both have 512 DDR in them. I am looking to upgrade to 2 GB. My laptop is compatible with both pc2700 and pc3200. I can buy 2 1 GB pc2700 memory upgrades for about $130. I can buy 2 1 GB pc3200 memory upgrades for about $170. Is the extra speed worth the 40 bucks?

When going for gaming, speed is important. The difference between pc2700 and pc3200 is about 15-18 percent. If your machine is supposed to use pc3200 and run at 3 GHz, you might find that it SEEMS to be running at aoub 3.5-2.6 GHz (effectively) with the pc2700. On the other hand, if the preferred chip is the pc2700, going to a faster memory probably will have no noticeable effect most of the time.

I would say no. I have a PC133. With 1.25 GB of RAM. And I have a pretty fast computer. Startup for my computer is about less than 20 seconds.
