Unfortunately some of the same ones the Vietnam war taught us, but we failed to apply them. In each case there was no need to rush to war. In each case Congress failed to stand up to a President who was bent on taking us to war. They didn't wan't be be branded as soft on Communism or soft on Terrorism so they joined the crowd that were beating the war drums. There was no debate or intelligent discussion, just a rush to judgment induced by politicans who played upon and actually generated fear in the country.

There is so many lessons to learn from that will teach future generations around the world. And it is more complicated then just the USA-Iraq war. Because the USA has Allies and there is the insurgents, AL qaeda, Taliban and osama and Iraq's allies. Then you have everyone pointing fingers at each other saying "your the real terrorist" "your the real evil sinners"
But i think the most important lessons were having the right Intel, equipment, and training to prevent any loss of life that was worth living or any loss of resources, trust, credibility and so on. and that comes from day one when the Intel of nuclear weapons was false and because one person lied a war was started because of a lie. If this lie was never passed down to people who should have the equipment and training to make sure anyone can't just make up a lie about a country for whatever reason we might have never gone to war.

Same as any other war.
George Washington told us not to get caught up in other country's affairs.
Oh, I bet he's turning in his grave, because look at us, here we are sticking our noses into affairs they shouldn't be in.
And just as the other people above me stated, we shouldn't have elected a dimwit for president, especially won who will resort to war without thinking through future consequences first.
And electing a vice president who has ties with oil companies, or something of the like.
War is not the answer, plain and simple.

Americans are to quick in wanting to go to war, There are many now that want the US to Attack ,Iran,Why? for what reason? Israel has gotten the US involved in all the turmoil of the Middle East, They want to remain the only nuclear power in the Middle East . The Idiot Bush and the Fundamental Christian right wing, Have led the US into fighting their wars for them. Israel needs to give back all Arab land and make peace. Not one more American Service person should die protecting Israeli intrest in the middle East.
