Baytown is a nice place, but has it's foibles just like anywhere else. Housing prices are like most other places, it depends on what you are looking for. I graduated from Sterling High School back in 73 and Goose Creek ISD was a very good school district back then. I wouldn't call it a redneck town, but there are farmers and horsemen there.

Baytown has around 70,000 people, so you'll find a little of everything. Mostly it's a blue-collar town. There are some very nice areas, and some not so nice areas, so it will depend on what part of town you want to live. For the most part, housing is very affordable and there are some nice new neighborhoods being built, mainly north of I-10. They're also building a 3rd high school (finally), so the newer neighborhoods will probably be going there.
If you have questions about specific parts of town, let me know.

Baytown is blue collar industrial community with major corporations represented, such as ExxonMobil Baytown Refinery, Exxon Chemical, Chevron Phillips, Bayer, Amoco and more.
The best way to define would be like the movie Urban Cowboy.

My grandparents have lived in the same house for over 60 years. I love going out there. I like stopping by Cherokee's on Thursday and grab me a lil drink and see some old friend from when i worked at methodist hospital.
It is a decent place to live. I feel safe with my grandparents being there. The mailman still walks up to their house to bring the mail. I just think that is so cool. That just does not happen in the part of town I am in lol

Redneck town with lot's of smelly chemical plants, but it's nice compared to Pasadena, the place where Houston would get an enema if it needed one.

I used to live there a long time ago and the only thing I can remember well is that it was really dirty and polluted.
