It is not a swear word or a curse word. It is used to describe someone who is intolerant to those unlike his or herself.
So it is perfectly ok to use, just understand what it means and don't use it lightly.

You might get in trouble in school. Calling someone a bigot could be drawing a line in the sand, and things may not go your way, even if you are correct and the term fits. What's the real problem? Is there anything you can do that is constructive?

Neither the word or really the meaning is bad; it has negative aspects to it but, like prejudice, is something every one has or is to a point. It is usually taken to mean in the extreme though so I would not use it in school or to describe some one unless you either just want to make them look bad or you can back it up if they challenge you.

The word itself is not a swear word anymore than racist or Nazi; but to call someone a bigot is another matter.

well, i wouldn't use it unless i was prepared to back it up and had plenty of evidence. it is not a bad word, but the behavior it describes is bad and someone would probably not like being described that way, even if it is true or not.

I don't see the problem in saying that at school.
