Nothing is wrong with saying Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays. And yes, Christmas IS the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, whether it happened on that day or not. Think about it, is Columbus Day celebrated on the actual day? How about Thanksgiving? What about all the other holidays? Quite a few are not celebrated on the actual day. but we celebrate anyway. The way Christmas is celebrated is giving gifts to loved ones, in honor of the three kings giving gifts to the newborn Jesus Christ. Has it become materialized, yes. Are there those who try to keep as much materialization out of it as possible, yes. Do we try as hard as we should or could, no.
Sorry for beginning to ramble, I think this subject is just too broad and needs way too much attention for this context to do it justice.
Merry Christmas to everyone, may the new year bring peace and happiness to each of you.

Yes,Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ our Saviour AND SOON coming KING!!! Don,t worry about the commercials as long as you have the Spirit of the lord in you. Just Pray for those that don,t believe because God said he,s not willing that ANY should parish. It,s very nice to give and recieve gifts with friends and family but it,s even greater to recieve the gift of Salvation from our Lord and Saviour and we must pray for them and get the word out that Jesus is our Saviour. I would rather know that I led someone to Christ than to worry about commercials and stores. Please don,t misunderstand,I think Christmas is Great but time is short and We,ve got to start focusing on the reason and purpose of Christmas and Share God,s Love. Merry Christmas and God Bless.

Actually, the holiday was based on the Pagan festivals celebrating the birth of the Sun. The Church merely adopted the holiday as its own so the Pagans wouldn't miss their traditions. Regardless, Xmas today is a secular holiday, not a religious one. What do you care if someone doesn't want to say Merry Xmas to you? I don't know what part of the world you live in, but here in New England, there are Xmas decorations, Carols and lights everywhere I look.

Well, the way we celebrate Christmas is essentially a commercially created ritual designed by one New York Newspaper and five New York Retailers. My guess is that most of them were not professing Christians.
The fat Santa comes from Saturday Evening Post artist redesigned for Coca Cola adds.
Merry Christmas and Happy New year to everyone!
The winter festival has, as you say, been purloined by Christians but the idea is not theirs so claims, like most such claims, do not compute.
On the holidays, they pretty much belong to everyone and not specifically the Christians. You guys may give them your own value but to claim them is myopic thinking recently associated with far too many Christians.
It is a difficult task to separate our closely held beliefs from reality but in public, we all must attempt to overcome our prejudices and misconceptions so that we can enjoy the temporary and mostly superficial attitude exhibited by our fellows.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

Well, actually chrismas is not about jesu's birth....its a pegan religion and jesus was not born in winter....the bible said so...look it up
But that's just small details...what I don't like is how religious people twist the bible to make it fit what they believe is right and wrong in the world.
If religion makes you a better person, then by all means, practice it....but don't be saying what you think is right, must be right, there's many religions in the world....how do you know your not wrong??
But anyways, I don't mind people saying merry chrismas or happy holidays...christianity is the major religion in this country so most feel the same way.
Just please don't be pushing your believes in to other peoples faces, all that does is it makes people mad....same goes for the non-religios people
Happy holidays :D

God is already set aside today. Start the change in yourself if you want change. There is nothing wrong today. it is just time. But we are wrong. What we do, what we priorize, what we think etc are these about God or about how we can satisfy our selfish desires. Desire for money, for love, for material thing, etc. CHANGE. START IT IN OURSELVES. There is nothing wrong with saying Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday. The wrong is the X-MAS. Many people use it. merry x-mas. As what u see, they change CHRIST INTO an X.
THE CHRISTMAS SEASON DOES NOT MEAN THE REAL BIRTH OF CHRIST. BUT THE REAL POINT OF CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IS TO CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF JESUS.Yes it istrue. No one knows the exact date of JESUS. It is not actually December 25. But the use of December 25 is patterned according to the end of the year and the beggining of another year. Do you celebrate the birth of your son? I mean do you great him? If so, JESUS also deserves to celelbrate his birth. We celebrate this season to remember that Jesus was born in grass with some animals beside Him., the important thing about this Christmas is God really loves us coz He send His son and born of a Virgin woman. Demember 25 is not the exact date of Jesus birth. But it is the chosen date to celebrate His birth.

you can do that. just some people choose not too. Christmas is a time for giving, and that's why they materialize it so much. People want to give the things their loved ones really wish for, without going broke.
(by the way, answerer above me, love is not a material thing. It's something that we use to get closer to God and others.)
(and Know It All, Christmas and Christianity is something that Christians worship; we don't need some article to give us scientific proof. It's a little something called faith. We never KNOW if something is true or not, but us Christians BELIVE.)

There is a movement to remove Christ from Christmas. They are pressuring businesses on every hand to do so in their adds and flyers and businesses are responding for fear of losing money (the love of money is the root of all evil). A counter movement is also active in pressuring the same businesses to leave the word "Christmas" in their ads, etc. Both factions are very active and both are equally effective. The world has long tried to erase Jesus from history and from the present.........but, it can not be done. How do you erase the very Creator of the universe? Christ will reign forever and ever and those who have come to know Him can not be stopped from singing His praises! Merry CHRISTmas to all.

Nothing's wrong with saying Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. You're right there aren't many comercials/ads etc. on the religious side, but that's why we have churches. We have churches so we can celebrate these things. : )
