Wars are fought in the geography. The various bits of geography are quite large, and difficult to move. This necessarily affects what happens.

But a good example would be the UK as an island. That fact presented insuperable difficulties to Hitler. This allowed England and later the USA to regroup and prepare for the invasion of Europe. Had England not been an island it would probably have been conquered by about September 1940.
