Personally, I don't think a 5 y/o should be out on a hunting trip pulling the trigger of a shotgun. I don't care how much he is supervised. Last year, he shot and killed 2 deer which means he was only 4y/o then. What do you think?

Pake, you are out of touch. I don't hate guns - I have one. Also, it is my business when it is in the news on the Yahoo homepage. I am a thinking and rational human being entitled to ask a question. I'm talking about a 5 year old boy. And, I don't appreciate you calling me a "liberal" in that tone of voice.

I think it is perfectly ok. I have been taking my 10 yo hunting since he was 3. He watched for 4 years before he was allowed to touch a gun. Now, he hunts on his own and still amazes me with his coolness and composure even while firing at animals. He learned gun safety and had all the right rules drilled into him for years. He handles firearms with almost perfection because he fully perfectly understands their potential which is more than I can say about most kids. It took me a whole lot of work to get him to get his first deer, but the smiler on his face made me forget all that. Without doubt, going out in the woods with dad and working hard to bring that deer home is absolutely a thrilling experince for a kid who dreams of being a man one day. My son absolutely loves every trip we take regardless if we take deer or not.
In summary, if taught right, it is perfectly safe and rewarding.

Regards.

Impressed. A five year old boy against a ferocious bear. I have to be impressed. Of course I am a hunter and meat eater so why should I be disgusted. The bear had a better life than the chickens, steers, etc. that we harvest for our daily tables. Go to a slaughter house sometime and see what goes on.

The news said the boy was a descendant of David Crockett. If this is true is his behavior genetic?

i was disgusted, as there are more important things to be talking about then that, second how do we know the grandfather didn't aim and steady it and all the kid had to do was pull the triggor?

second here we are complaining about the killing mentality of people and the shoot um ups on the news,, and we praise someone for killing an animal who didn't even know they were there. what kind of bravery and message is that? I hardly think someone should be praised for killing an animal for sport ( that is not for self defense or for food).

RRRR

I even have 2 nephews interior the northern component of the US that stay for the searching season and that they are the two under the age of 18. together as I believe the nicely suited to undergo palms, that does no longer mean you have the nicely suited to pass out and kill something you prefer. 5 twelve months olds might desire to be stressful approximately different issues....

I have nothing against hunting if it's for survival. However, I think it's pretty sick to hunt just so you can get a trophy you can hang on your wall or display in your living room.

I think you should mind your own business.

If you hate guns and are afraid of them....don't use them.

I took my son shooting at an early age too. Now, instead of fearing guns he knows how to use them in a safe an respectful manner.

Liberals. Always trying to make others as miserable as themselves.
