I want to chop down a dead tree in my backyard. It has been dead for at least 6 months. Could be a year. Does it still have to be seasoned? or can I chop it down and burn immediately?

Sometimes standing dead wood is dry enough to burn. Cut it into stove length and see if it has any checks in the ends. If it has checked it will be dry enough to burn.

I always try to season wood for a year. My oaks take that long. I cut down some palm trees two years ago. Yesterday I cut into a piece. I could squeeze water out of the wood..

I would cut, stack, and cover the wood and allow it to 'season' a couple of months longer. Try a log or two and see how it burns.

I'd still cut, split, stack, & season the wood.
Just because the tree was dead does not mean
that osmosis stopped carrying water up the trunk.
