precious metals like gold, platinum and silver withstand the test of time. they don't fall apart like a 2000 year old structure no matter how beautiful or architectually appealing. they may get tarnished, but could be easily cleaned, and at various times have maintained a monetary value.
however, more importantly, is love. love is probably the most joyful feeling a living creature can hope to feel. love is eternal in the sense that though the parties might have shuffled off, their love and its memory will live in eternity. you can also expand on love as also being the love of disciplines like the love of art, the love of literature, of poetry, of creations that bring joy to our intelect and others'. finally there is the love of a mother and/or dad for their children, a necessity before any procreation.
