Probably what he was before politics .
He was a swindler , a la Ken Lay . Maybe partly why he was a pal of 'ol Kenny Boy . His deals were all insider-sweetheart deals , where somebody got ripped off . There were actual Enron-style scams, just on a much smaller . Then there was the Texas Rangers stadium thing . Too many bouncing balls to describe here , without writing a book . Suffice it to say that public money was used to enrich private individuals ; Bush & the rest of the ownership, and later , the current owners , Tom Hicks & L. Hughes ( the principle owners of Clearchannels ) . Also, landowners around the project got robbed by emminent domain , with the land and (& the profits) going to Bush & the boys .

To be fair , Bush probably wasn't the driving force behind any of it , but he didn't turn down the $ either . He probably was essential though, because of his connections . Some of it was legal , some wasn't . What wasn't , was made legal, or ignored , due to his and others influential connections . Bush might be the biggest crook to ever make it to the White House , at least by total $ stolen . ( I know , I know - Whitewater .That however was "only " $300-400k, and wasn't a deliberate attempt to steal . It was improper loans, ie, use , & loss of other people's money . The principles lost their own money too . Wrong , but a drop in a Bush bucket . & I do count THEM as crooks, but this is a question about our current criminal. ;D )

He failed at every business he tried. Like Phil said, he even tried his hand at the oil business and went broke. He was then given a job with a Texas pro baseball team by his Daddy's rich buddies; until some republicans noticed he would make a good politician (Know how to lie to your face with pleasant smile and no conscience) so they ran him for Governor of Texas and the rest is ................ history. The original Bush family money came from being arms dealers to shady governments and rebel fighters. Then they took that money and did well in the oil business. Bush's and the Bin Ladin's are close personal friends. In the first few days after 911 if you have not heard they were escourted out of the country for their safety.

(CBS) Two dozen members of Osama bin Laden's family were urgently evacuated from the United States in the first days following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, according to the Saudi ambassador to Washington.

One of bin Laden's brothers frantically called the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Washington looking for protection, Prince Bandar bin Sultan told The New York Times. The brother was sent to a room in the Watergate Hotel and was told not to open the door.

Most of bin Laden's relatives were attending high school and college. The young members of the bin Laden family were driven or flown under FBI supervision to a secret place in Texas and then to Washington, The Times reported Sunday.

The only presidents who arrive at the White House with "experience" are those who are beginning their second terms. The key here would seem to be the new president's advisors, but that is a two-edged sword. If they select only advisors who already agree with them, the advice they get it going to be biased; if they select advisors who do not necessarily agree with them, they are likely to use the expertise of those advisors to "Make THIS happen!" regardless of whether "THIS" is a good course of action to follow. Colin Powell resigned as Secretary of State largely because President Bush didn't listen to his advice when it did not affirm Bush's own views. Bush disregarded the "Advise and Consent" role of Congress. He seldom even bothered to consult with Democrats or even Republicans who might have disagreed with him. Bush did not invent the concepts of hiring only biased advisors or demanding that Congress "Agree or Shut Up," and we are unlikely to see a truly open-minded president after this election is over.
