What to do when Thunderbird deletes messages?

Hey everyone,
I just tried to help a friend out, because her email wasn't working and i had to try and pull it up through thunderbird and it didn't import them all and the setting was on where it deletes them from the original email address, well it didn't finish them all, but it did delete them all off of the original, what do i do to get them back, please someone help

check in your trash and there you can find them
