I have a RES (about 4 inches) and I just got a Western Painted tonight. They are the same size. I have my RES in a 75 gallon. I was wondering how well these two will do together? Any advice?

PS - I do understand that they will get very big. I already know where I'm going to keep them full grown.

A male RES will hit 9", a female 12". The Painted will be lucky to hit 8". RES are notoroious bullies, so make sure the Painted has PLENTLY of room and hiding places.

Overall, this should be OK, but together, they already should be in 80 gallons of water. Do you have a bigger than handy?

They will ber fine for a while, but the western painted will not get near as big as your RES.

If they're about the same size, they'll be fine together
