i founded the musician's club in my school. i did these clubs:
literary magazine, model UN, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Debate Team, Tech Team, humanitarian. I also did student government, and was on the volleyball team. My gpa is a 3.8 unweighted. I had a tutoring job at a community center.
I am hispanic, so thanks affirmative action.
my questions are these:
what are my chances for columbia
do the number of years u are part of each extracurricular matter??
i still have a bit of time to strengthen my resume so what can do to improve my chances, other than study for the SATs, for which i am well prepared.

Well, I recently got accepted to Columbia University (ED) and I did not have over a 2100 on my SAT's (1950), so while you should strive for the best, don't get nervous if you should fall a little short.

I was in about the same amount of clubs you were, but I also had leadership positions in 4 of them, so that will definitely help you out if you are also. Also, I did not join a majority of the clubs I was in until sophomore year. I do not advise you to pick up a whole bunch of activities now, because that shows a lack of commitment.

And how rigorous is your schedule? I have taken every Honors/AP class my schedule would allow since freshman year, and I got A's in pretty much all of them. If this is the same for you, then I think your chances are pretty darn high.

Your resume looks pretty good as it is. My only advice to you is to make your college essay as remarkable as possible, because I really think that may have been the factor that put my application into the acceptance pile.

If there is a counselor for your class in school check to see what is required in the way of marks, extra curricular activities , for entrance into Columbia University. Renown schools are getting more difficult to enter due to the larger number of applicants. which has raised tuition to high levels, and entrance requirements as well. Perhaps affirmative action may have a bearing on your eligibility. There are also several scholarships at schools like Columbia which go begging for students to apply. Look into these as well. You might find an alumnus who would take interest in your application.

sorry, columbia is already remarkably diverse in international and US students. GPA is solid for unweighted. Was on volleyball team? They want to see committment (all years). It does matter how long you've been in clubs, again, they want to see dedication and genuine interest. You should have at least 5 AP's , solid SAT scores, 2100+. As for clubs, doesn't matter as much if you're in them, matters if you actually changed the way they function. Be a leader in those clubs. Again, I don't have enough info, please post your SAT scores and clarify on your course load, AP's, and AP scores.
