im straight, but i believe people are born gay. Marco, it is not a "defect". why would someone CHOOSE to be something that is discriminated against in society. why would someone CHOOSE to have fewer rights than those who are straight. studies show that people who are gay, know they are different when they are young, even if they do not know exactly why. It is impossible to choose to be someone that you have know knowledge that it even exists.

people should be able to love who they want to without being hated, or called a "defective" "fetus".

If it was a choice to be made, I would choose to be born straight. Not because I have a problem with homosexuals, but only because I know for sure that I couldn't handle the scrutiny that these people have to face every day of their lives.

That thinking fails in the logic department. Murderers on death row had a choice..and made the wrong one. Homosexuals, as well, made a poor choice and will pay the consequences in a similar way. I have made a choice to be drug free, however, others, have not made such a good choice. Why do people make bad choices? Often it is selfishness, or a belief they can get away with it. However, God is not mocked, whatsoever a man sows, so shall he reap.

So you're arguing that you don't have a choice. You claim that you are born either gay or straight. Can you post a link to the scientific evidence proving this? Your logic is lacking my friend. Don't confuse sexual preference with an actual biological trait such as sex or race. You assume that you are "born" gay, and have no choice. If it is found that homosexuality is a biological defect, would it be morally justified for parents to destroy the fetus like you can now do for other diseases or birth defects? I would be curious as to the probability of having an excess or lack of the appropriate hormone in their bodies during puberty or prior to that and what effect that has on the onset of homosexual thoughts or behavior. For example a male child with a lack of enough testosterone and a surplus of estrogen in his system. As somebody stated, there are examples of "Butch" lesbians. It should be plain to see that some of them have a hormonal imbalance with a surplus of testosterone (causing male characteristics: facial hair, deeper voice, larger build, male tendencies/ more violent). Hormonal imbalances cause many psychological issues and might cause sexual identity confusion, especially in a younger and more impressionable person (who might be unduly influenced or taken advantage of by an older homosexual person trying to "help them" find themselves). I think an example of this is the prevalence of bisexual behavior among young college age women. But it is hardly behavior they were born with, it is all learned.

*Kate. This person is stating that people are born gay. Then homosexuality would have to be a biological defect or mutation. If you think about it in those terms there is no positive benefit or "biological" reason for homosexuality, since homosexuals cannot reproduce. Hence the mutation if left to natural selection would die fairly quick. Since there are historical records of homosexual behavior going back thousands of years, we know that it is not a modern phenomenon. That's why I think it is more of a behavioral issue. Hormonal issues at a young age like I previously stated might also be partially to blame, leading to sexual identity confusion. It just makes sense. Everybody keeps mentioning these "studies" that prove all the pro-gay at birth points of view. Care to link to one? Most are sponsored by pro-gay groups. And guess what? Surprise, surprise... They support the pro-gay lobby's stance. All I'm asking for is the link to one un-biased study by an independent group. That's what I thought...

Andrew: "but when you consider evidence, such as the extremely high attempted suicide rate for Homosexual Adolescents (source; Wikipedia), It seems unlikely that it’s just a simple choice. Why would anyone kill themselves over something they can easily change?"

* I think this once again reinforces my theory that there might be an underlying hormonal/ chemical imbalance going on here which the person can't figure out, and which leads to confusion and thought of suicide. Rational people don't try to kill themselves, and this goes beyond the typical teenage angst of trying to "find yourself". Yes, there is bias and hardship for homosexuals in the U.S. But it is very common and accepted way more than say even 50 years ago. It's not like we're as bad as Iran where they stone them in the streets for being gay, and their president denies the existence of any gays in his country. People are human beings regardless of orientation and deserve to be treated with respect. I'm not advocating harm to anyone.

* For the people upset by the term biological defect, what would you consider it? If indeed you claim that people are born gay right? Then it can't be helped and is a phenomenon of a biological nature. Being homosexual obviously isn't a biological trait that is beneficial, as gays can't reproduce. Leave the emotions aside and see my rational point on this. It's cut and dry...

We are all born innocent, deviance is learned behavior. I believe the homosexual behavior is a result of emotional disturbance, I could be wrong , only a theory, but do believe the argument has legs enough to be considered.

I was born gay, and thank GOD for that. Being heterosexual is nothing to be proud of.

Self-respecting queers don't sit around wishing they were straight. "Defect" my ***.
