That Rumsfeld picture is from 1980, Prior to the war. he was there to promote Saddam to attack Iran.

Now you know during Desert Storm Saddam sent, around 30-40 of his Jet fighters and other type of AC to Iran, in order to save them from being destroyed .
After the war how ever he wrote a letter to Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani who was the Pres. at that time, and apparently they kissed and made up. Now about this meeting, i heard some news, but i didn't know Saddam attended as well, but it's very possible.

No, it wouldn't surprise me. Why wouldn't he attend a meeting of Islamic leaders? Remember, a majority of people in his country were Shiites, as is most of Iran's people. Saddam himself was Sunni, as are the Saudis. If the leaders were meeting, I am sure Saddam would be there.

I have often asked why Saddam did not seek asylum in another Islamic country when he saw the inevitability of the Bush invasion? He could easily have slipped into Syria, as his daughters did, or into some other Arab country, thus evading the death he knew was coming if he stayed in Iraq.

I think the Bush quest for control of the world's oil supply is abominable, and those who support him with their religious appetite for taking over Biblical lands seem to display very little morality. We have learned that Iran is not the ferocious enemy that Bush tried to tell us it was in a repeat of the WMD and nuclear power he claimed were in the hands of Saddam Hussein. Now we must concentrate on finding someone other than this spendthrift, untruthful leader who insults the intelligence of those he leads.

After he and his bunch are gone, perhaps we can sort out the truth from lies, right from wrong, night from day and ascertain the true intentions of Iran with diplomatic meetings and inspections.

I can't find any source that claims Saddam met with Iran after the Iran Iraq war, and if they did that would really surprise me. Those two countries hated each other, that's why they got in a war that killed around 1 million people.

If you have a source, I'd like to see it.

It would surprise me, considering that Saddam Hussein was extremely undiplomatic.

He met with the US too. Here's a picture of him shaking hands with Donald Rumsfeld.
