She was the flagship for Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the Japanese admiral in charge of the Combined Northern Fleet which carried out Plan "Z" in the aerial attack on Pearl Harbor and the other military installation on Oahu Island in the Territory of Hawaii on December 7, 1941. Yamamoto also used it as his flagship for Operation MI, which became the Battle of Midway instead of the Japanese invasion and occupation of Midway.
To me the ship was a bad omen. Because his use of Nagato as a flag ship also involved the death of all but two dozen of the 300+ Japanese aviators who had carried out Plan Z.
Fortunately we got rid of that bad omen after the war and used her as a target during an atomic test at Bikini Atoll.

I was born in 1948. I don't remember that ship either. And I am not that old either. I don't consider being old until at least 90. And I have a ways to go before I get there. Sorry, but I gave you a star for the interesting question.

I remember that ship, it's kinda famous because it served as the flagship of the Japanese navy at the beginning of the WW2.

I don't, but I'm sure that my husband would know of it. He is a bit of a war history buff. I think I will ask him about it tomorrow. Thanks to Desertviking for the info.
