You can't technically "delete" your Facebook per se, but you can deactivate it. Go to "account" on the top right of the top navigation bar and choose "deactivate." You can reactive your Facebook whenever you want to if you so have the urge.

You can deactivate your account by clicking on privacy settings and then clicking deactivate. This will delete all of your wall posts etc from other people's profiles but if you log back in with your email and password you will reactivate your account if you want to permantly delete your account you will need to contact facebook and have them to delete it for you. Hope this helps.

Go to account on your homepage (it should be in the top-right hand corner), then go down to deactivate account. It should be at the very bottom. You'll have to explain why you want it deactivated and you can even deactivate it temporarily.
