At the beginning of this school year, everyone was talking about Darfur. Now it is hard to find a story about that region of the world. Even at presidential debates where there used to be a few questions about Darfur, there are now none. Why has America (or the rest of the world) shifted it's focus away from the millions of refugees?

For some reason, the Instant Karma CD seemed to mark the end of the campaign Darfur...at least to me.

Anyone disagree?
Also, do some people think that

Well. I have to agree... There are many ignorant people in the United States that seem to think that the conflict in Darfur has nothing to do with them. Unfortuntaly, many people do not realize that Africa is the center of Government corruption in the world. These countries, if purified of their corruption could become valuable trade partners and become strong diverse allies of the United States.

The conlfict has been going on for about 5 years now and already over 400,000 people have been killed. Millions more have been either raped, injured, or displaced in the killings. This is a very serious problem. The world community should see this as a threat to humanity of all people, not just those involved. We have to ask ourselves, how many more genocides are we going to allow? This is the 4th genocide in Sudan in the past 30 years. And there has been over 15 others throughout the world since The Holacaust in Europe. When are we going to stop and pay attention?

If you want to see groups who are doing something to help these people, Check out SAVE DARFUR... or get involved with a local chapter of a DARFUR orginization. STAND is huge program for students, that work with other orginizations to raise awareness.

It is truly up to the individual to work to spread awareness and write letters to these people in need.

The Campaign must continue and Amnesty international is not the only one supporting a campaign.

Other things to know about Darfur:
China is a huge trader with Sudan, and continues to support them with money.

China is hosting the next Summer Olympics.

This past week there was a HUGE protest on washington to Boycott the next olympics, until Economic sanctions are placed on SUDAN.

One step at a time.... This will end.

I just finished watching a movie/documentary called
The Devil Came on Horseback
about the Darfur region..... excellent and informative.

2.5 million people displaced and over 400,000 native africans slaughtered by the Sudan government to get the natives to move out of the region so that the oil pipelines and oil explorations continue on..... 70% of the Sudan oil goes to China and their not wanting the US to interfere.

If the U.N. grew a backbone and didn't allow the slaughter, genocide to continue in Darfur, like the U.N. allowed in Rwanda & Sierra Leon, then maybe the natives of Darfur would have a chance to live in peace instead of some refugee camp along the boarder

the novel Islamicists attempt to exterminate all Jews in Israel/Palestine. China is killing off the Tibetans and forcing Han chinese language into Tibet to weigh down them culturally. There are a number of places in eastern Africa the place genocide is the guideline.

The majority (in the north) decided to force the minority (in the south) to do things their way. When they refused, they decided to kill them all. When the AU or UN got involved, they said mind your own business. The AU and the UN said, but, but, but ---.
