Suicide-gender differences?

Question

These are the facts:
Women attempt suicide much more often than men.
Men have a much higher success rate.

Why do you think this is?

I think because Woman are just making a "cry for help" and don't really want to kill themselves, whereas Men have already made a final decision.
I read that when woman commit suicide, they are less likely to do it to disfigure themselves, Like shooting themselves in the head. it is a vanity thing, woman Men don't care what they look like when people find them.

I think any suicide attempt is a cry for help in desperation, sometimes it goes too far but it's too late by then. So women are crying for help more often but men are more aggressive in nature so when it comes to it they may go too far in their cry for help where a woman may stop, maybe something to do with testosterone. Men do cry for help though the mental hospitals and wards have many men who "cried for help" and in there they are getting help whether it is the kind of help they need is debatable.

When males decide they want to die, they go ahead and do it. They don't know how to ask for help, they aren't so likely to tell anyone and therefore they don't even cry out for help as in an unsuccessful suicide attempt. Women may be just as serious about wanting to die - but in their sub-concious they want someone to help the situation or depression that is causing this, so they will take pills, or do something that will be discovered before they actually die. They don't even realize they do this - but it is true, they do. If their cry for help goes unheard long enough they will eventually succeed, but as the men never make those first cries for help - sadly their first attempt will be final

Men have a tendency to use more violent means of suicide - guns, knives, hanging. Also cars (gassing in garage, accidents).

Women tend to use pills or other methods that take longer which allows for more successful rescue and recovery.

I don't want to give anyone ideas, but this is one reason.
