So I guess on average the difference in age in couples ranges from 3 to 7 years, people seem to have no problem with these age ranges. But when people are younger it is considered odd for example, a senior in high school to date a sixth grader middle school. Why is it accepted when people get older and why isn't it when people are younger? Also, do married or dating couples realize that they are in essence, in a situation where a fifth grader is dating a 5 year old?

Just to tell everyone, I am not interested in grade school children, that is just weird, I have just been wondering about this. I am not asking if it is acceptable in society to date a grade school kid. They are just examples.

The older you get the more common life experience you share with with people of all ages. It's not that big of a deal.

When you are 30, a difference of 3 to 7 years is not significant; 3 years would be 1/10th of that person's life; 7 years just more than 1/4 of that person's life; a senior in high school would be 17 or 18; so a 7-year differnce in age would be more than 1 third of that person's life. Add to that that both of the latter would still be children, inexperienced in life, it would then be quite a significant difference.

It's weird when you think of it that way, except the difference is that they are all grown up and mature. Some people mature faster than others, and some don't. For example, a very mature girl can date an older immature guy and they'll get along great, because they're at the same level of maturity.

Because after a certain age, I'd say about 16 for most adults I know, people stop maturing emotionally. It's really unfortunate, but it's true. Just look at work place drama for an example.

i get the gist of what you are saying, but look at it this way... what in the world does a 10 year old 6th grader have in common with a 17 year old high school senior? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

it's illegal for minors to date with that many years difference. once you are 18 and older, there is no law. i'm sure you know this, and are just being a pain in the asss.
