No not unless it is dual compatable. Sony owns the rights to blue ray right now, hence the ps3 being able to play them. It has been said that HD-DVD will win out because the disks are cheaper to produce than blue-ray disks but that has all yet to be determined. Sorta like how the ps2 got a lot of people a dvd player Sony is looking at the ps3 the same way. Only time will tell who wins this epic battle, in the meantime the players are expensive 300+ and coming down on both sides. It is sorta like vhs vs. beta. Beta wasn't nessesarily a worse format it's just that vhs tapes were cheaper!! Oh and they could rent porn on vhs than beta...one thing blue-ray is not doing at all...since people like disney are on blue ray....So unless Blue ray brings the production costs down you will likely see a HD-DVD win...But Sony has some big titles...So you never know!

No

But they do make players that play both Blu Ray AND HD DVD. However, a Blu Ray only player will not play HD DVD's. That's why it's a Blu Ray player.
