With winter here. It's skiing. I made it to about the intermediate level. I'm still happy I had the opportunity to do it at all. Many folks in my socio-economic level never did.

Running for the sheer joy of it, and dancing for the same reason. Although I have arthritis, fibromyalgia, and badly injured a leg two years ago and was told I'd never be able to move freely...I am exercising, walking a lot, and determined to work "through the pain". I have even begun to do some of the dances I loved in the sixties...BY MYSELF IN AN EMPTY ROOM OF COURSE lolol....and I'm not ever going to let the spirit of that carefree girl I used to be, die off. I might creak and snap and crackle, and I might sit down one heck of a lot quicker and nicer than I can get up again, but doggone it, I'm gonna be HAPPY right where I am now! And i hate it when my BODY says it's heading for 60 but my BRAIN still feels 18!!!!

I can't say that I miss snow skiing. I was a terrible skier. Took lessons several times. The only thing I was good at was getting up after a fall. My husband and children loved to ski so I always went along and tried to enjoy it. I could do the "snowplow" but my knees always ached.

I miss being able to participate in sports. I loved playing basketball, softball and volleyball. Think I'd still try it if I could play on a team with women my own age.

Hi Shirley - I used to ski pretty well until my skis had an altercation with a pine tree - they went one way and I went the other - end of skiing career! Also miss ice skating - could dance on ice too! I also miss my bicycle believe it or not, but emphysema precludes many activities these days - so I just potter out to my mail box - and call it a walk! Ha! Ha!
Very good question.

Well, I've never tried to ski, wasn't a runner, and really wasn't into sports. I do realize how out of shape I am every spring when I get out to the garden and have to turn the soil with a shovel. By the end of the season I'm back into shape... just to begin the whole thing all over again. You don't need to have money to train with a shovel.

I can no longer walk due to a spinal cord injury and I most miss being able to walk through the hills and hollows of my home (Tennessee), to fish and hunt, to take my grandchildren shopping and to the park. I can no longer drive so trips through the mountains are only memories now. I have a wonderful, happy life with many blessings but I've had to find new hobbies and passions to occupy my time and my mind.

I would definitely have to say it would be running then triathlons. I used to run and work out at the gym after work every day......took off on weekends. I can still work out just not as hard as I used to because of my knee replacement.
Can only walk or walk fast, no running. I miss dancing fast
dances for hours on end. Of course I loved the slow dances too. I won several contests and trophies.

For a few years I grieved that I would no longer ride dirt bikes and climb mountains. Then I realized I have done a lot of things and enjoyed the majority of them. so I am blessed!

I've always been energetic and MOOOVING, jumping up and down on and off everything. Last summer at my grandson's ballgame i squatted down to talk to someone sitting in their chair and when I started up I couldn't make it. I fell on the lady beside me.
I was astonished at my own weakness and embarrassed because I didn't know i had limitations.
Things, they are a changin'.
