-- most folks think if we do it will solve all of these shootings we have been having in the usa -- flip side -- what about the ranchers who want to protect their stock -- or the hunter who hunts for sport or food on the table --- yes guns kill folks == but is there a happy middle ground -- my favorite joke was guns do not kill people -- arouse husbands do -- yes these shooting are sad -- but most if not all were caused by crazy folks == if the guns was not used they would find someother way!!!!

We eat what we kill and sometimes use the hides. The men in my family are hunters and fishermen! And, yes our ranchers need to protect baby calves from varmints. People that can't follow that lead must not eat hamburgers!! And, your right a gun is not the only thing that can kill people. How about a box cutter!!!!!!!!!!

Most if not all of the school shootings were done by kids who were endlessly teased and ostracized by fellow students. We all know that kids can be cruel but I think that this has taken on a whole new meaning these days. I am not saying that this is a reason to kill someone. But when a person is faced with this day in and day out it can take its toll. Someone needs to start teaching some human kindness. I raised my sons to be accepting of others in spite of differences.
Of course there are some really crazy and or mean people out there. It should be really hard to get a gun and then it should be registered.

The fact is this......if they recalled all the guns by law, only the honest, law-abiding people would comply.

The thugs (who aren't supposed to have them in the first place) certainly won't turn theirs in.

So, you'd have a society where only the military, the thugs and the police have weapons.

No thanks. As a child, where I grew up, everyone had guns, pistols, rifles. My 13th birthday present was a nice little 22 caliber single shot. It was a popular gift for a new teenager. Of course, we had been around guns and shooting for several years.

I don't own any guns now and haven't for 30 years....but I want the right to buy one if I feel like I need it.

I would like to see a ban on assault weapons; they are made for only one thing - killing people. You can't hunt with them, fer sure - you'd blow the poor beastie to smithereens.

In my opinion for whatever it is worth, if the kids in the schools all carried then if some one acted up and tried to kill a bunch of them they could all turn on him and blast his silly *** into the next kingdom. Same for ordinary citizens. When the old west died with the politicians stupidity, our problems with guns in the wrong hands escalated. I mean how many people would try to rob some one else if everyone in that house was armed and dangerous. Not many, that for damned sure. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. This would have been a far better country from back when if everyone carried openly. So there would have been a few gunfights so what, what do they show on TV and the movies now, babies playing with guns, no, they show grownups shooting each other and the stupid public craves more. Just my rant, sorry if I offended anyone.

Looks like they are doing EXACTLY the appropriate things....filing charges against someone suspected of breaking a Law. Do you think if tomorrow we said, "ALL GUNS ARE FORBIDDEN" that this IDIOT would take his guns down to the Cop Shop and Turn them in? Is Naivete Hereditary or a Learned Behavior? So, it is the same Situation as this: Since 1 Family is Breaking the Law by Defrauding TANF, then we should Ban it for everyone? Sounds Fair to me.

I read a very interesting piece on gun control awhile ago....in it they spoke of how gun rights protectors cite states that have rigid gun control laws and proving it doesn't work - i.e., crime still abounds....YET, what the article went on to say was that a NATIONAL law must be passed that applies to all states before gun control will work [as proven by some countries who ban guns] ..At present when a state bans guns [such as in DC] the perps just go to a neighboring state to get their guns....so until they have nowhere to go we will see no appreciable change.

I see absolutely NO PURPOSE for assault rifles and the like...and they definitely need to be removed...inclusive of hand guns which have no purpose but to kill humans.

As for finding another way to kill...perhaps, but most in our area who use guns to kill [and the same in many mass shootings] those same perps would NOT go up to each and every person and knife them - nor take the time to do slow methods like poisoning...what they are looking for is immediate and instant FAME...or should I say INFAMY

Guns do not kill people, people kill people, with guns.
If anyone dares to brake into my house, that will be the last thing they ever do in their lives.
Criminals can get guns on the black market and the streets, that will not stop them on iota. People and kids these days have no respect for human life, Its a I see it so I want it attitude, and if someone is in the way of what they want, too bad.

Why not Issue carry permits (after the passage of a course on the use of deadly force that contains proficiency tests) to the honest law abiding citizens who wish to carry? This would provide a deterrent to that lawless segment of society that usually seem to be the ones who are doing the shooting. Just think about it for a moment... Where have these people gone to do their dastardly deeds? A Mall where there are signs proclaiming it a "gun free zone"... A school... Another "gun free zone"... A church... Another of those supposed "GUN FREE ZONES" These people are COWARDS! If there is a prospect that someone might pull their own legal weapon and prevent them from carrying out their little plan "to go out in a blaze of glory" they are going to think twice about trying to do it.

The honest Law abiding citizen is not the problem. We already register our firearms... We comply with the laws concerning transport to the field for hunting or the range for practice. If we were given back the right to carry legally the murder rate would not likely go up nor would the crime rate, in fact it would probably go down because WE are not the problem!

The criminal who has illegally obtained his weapon and who will not bother to obtain the proper permits to carry it. And who most probably has already shown his disregard for the law in other ways IS THE PROBLEM! If he thinks that there is a good chance that the next customer who walks into the convenience store he is about to rob could be carrying a firearm and might use it to thwart his plan... He just might decide not to carry out his plan.

Of course the suicide rate might go up because those cowards (I'm sorry I don't mean to sound unfeeling but suicide IS a cowardly and extremely selfish act... I know this because I have dealt with the aftermath of too many suicides) who would go out and shoot up a school or mall would probably go out and just commit suicide instead.

This is a great question. I live alone as many women do now days. I have been using guns for practice since I was 13 years old. Had 2 brothers in the army and they taught me more. My ex had lots of guns and I got more practice. I am familiar with a lot of guns and consider myself skilled.

I would never raise a gun in anger or malicious violence. But I will protect myself if the need should arise.

Criminals have guns too!

I think rifles, shotguns, and hand guns should be registered. No automatic weapons should ever be sold. I am keeping my gun, but I don't mind registering it. Who the heck needs a machine gun except the bad guys? If everyone who owned a gun needed a license to have it then the guns could be taken away from the criminals. If someone wants to kill they will find a way, gun or no gun.
