They're names are all of Celtic/Irish origin, and they're all girl names.

Bec (rhymes with "deck")- means "little one"

Aideen (aid-een)- feminine form of "Aidan" meaning "little fire"

Cera (keer-ra, like "keira")- means "friend"

Orna (or-nah)- means "little one"

My favourite is Bec, but it seems kinda short for a first name. I really love Cera Aideen and Orna Bec as names.

Your opinions please!

Thanks :)

Bec - one I can appreciate in theory, but I think it would seem too informal in real life. For instance, while I realize Beacan would technically be the (further) diminutive, it actually comes across as more complete and, therefore, formal ... at least assuming you're in the states.

Aideen - a fine name -- technically often considered a simple Anglicization of Etain, though it can also stem from the same aed root as Aidan (not strictly the "feminine form," however) -- but not my favorite of the Ai- names. I actually prefer Aileen, especially given the current Aidan-names trend, or even Aila, Ailsa, Aisling, Ailis, Aine, Aithne/Eithne, etc. ;)

Cera - Cara is the literal Irish word for "friend." The Cer- form seems more likely related to Welsh Ceri/Ceridwen, to be honest. In other words, if it's the sound you love, stick with Ciara ("like Keira" ... a common Anglicization). And if the meaning is more important to you, Cara is a better bet. ;)

Orna - always a favorite -- I love Oran for a boy even more ;) -- but again, if meaning is significant, don't forget the "pale green" or "dark haired" meaning here (depending on which etymology you go by)! After all, the "little one" portion is only thanks to the diminutive -an/-na suffix, not the literal root of the name itself. You might also like Orla, Oona(gh)/Una or Nuala/Nola, by the way.

Bec - Like you said, I do think it is rather short for a first name. I think it would serve better as a middle name. It would also sound cute though as Becca, Becky, or another elongated version. P.S. For some reason it reminds me of Macbeth, which makes it seem more masculine.

Aideen - Personally, I'm not a big fan of this one. It just doesn't seem to flow in my opinion. I do like Aiden for a boy though. This one reminds me of Adidas, the sports company.

Cera - Love the name, not so certain on the spelling though. You would have a lot of mis-spellings and mis-pronunciations. I think it would be better spelled Keira or Kira. Other than that, it's a darling lil' name! I also think it would be cute if you pronounced it like Sarah. It would be a unique twist on spelling.

Orna - Again, this is not my favorite. It seems more masculine than feminine, and it just does not flow to me. It reminds me of horns or an ornament for some reason. It just plain doesn't work for me (sorry!)

As far as combinations go, I like Cera Bec, Cera Aideen, and Bec Aideen.

Hope this helps!

I love them all but as you stated, Bec is a bit short for a first name. I really like Cera Aideen, but I think Cera is going to get mispronounced alot. Orna Bec is really pretty. I think that one is my favorite.

I'm glad you're naming your baby according to your family history.

If you name her Bec, people will think it's short for Rebecca and call her Becca.

I like Aideen. Cera is beautiful. Orna is a loser. It has too many harsh tones for this language.

Cera Aideen gets my vote!
