if you get lucky.... but if you don't you'd be glad that you have a formal education that you can use in real life if the acting career doesnt go as planned.

You don't have to go to college, but courses dedicated to acting will more than likely teach you techniques that can be difficult, or take a long time to get a handle on. It doesn't matter if you want to be a serious or comic actor, both types, if good, are very skilled. It is not good enough that your friends think you are funny. Acting takes a lot of dedication and unless you are extremely lucky and naturally talented, a course will help you begin to learn the skills you may need.

Talent Agents and Casting Directors want to work with actors that are well-trained, and attended a stellar university, with a stellar acting program.
Some casting directors and Agents will not work with actors unless they have a solid acting background from one of the top Universities, known for training excellent actors.
It's only important if you are serious about the industry.
Hon, perhaps, acting is not "right," for you.

Attending college for acting is great... it can give you training that you won't receive elsewhere, however be open about it. There isn't a rule that says you have to go to college right after high school, so take time to live in New York or L.A. or wherever for a year just to get your feet wet. If you plan to major in theater, consider double majoring in something else, something that will make you interesting and different from every other that walks in with a theater degree from college... consider studying abroad and studying theater in another country... something that makes you stand out.

Really, no. You don't need school, you need talent. One of the most important things you get in school (besides honing your craft) is contacts. Sometimes they can be more important than how well you do in an audition.

you don't have to go to college to become an actor, but it might improve your chances of getting good parts.
the main thing that you need is experience, but a college degree in acting or theatre might help you with that.
