When I was a child and we played Hide and Seek, if everyone was not found, the person who was IT would give you the freedom to come out of hiding by saying, " Allie, allie, ox in free". or- "Allie, allie, ox come free". Which did they say and what does that mean?

We said Allie, allie all in free. I've also heard it said with oxen.

We said "Allee, allee in free". Other than that it meant you could run home we had no clue what it meant. And I still don't.

But allee allee oxen free also sounds familiar.
