To the 'shoot to subdue' answers, you obviously don't know anything about weapons. There are ONLY 2 places you can shoot and be certain to subdue a person. Both are instantly fatal. Even a fatal wound is not guaranteed to stop a person until they are actually dead. Also consider that if I aim at a leg and miss by 2 inches, it is a clean miss. If I aim at the heart and miss by 4 inches, I will probably puncture a lung. It the first shot fails to stop the intruder, you won't get a second shot.

Only if the self-defense led to the death of the intruder. I believe in self-defense and gun usage when someone breaks into a home. One shot to subdue the intruder, and then call police. If that one shot is in the head or heart and he dies, well guess what? He shouldn't have been there in the first place.

One answer mentioned shooting in the leg. I'll tell you why I wouldn't shoot him in the leg, because he is still mobil and can still harm me and my family! If someone invades my home then they are asking for death if me or my family is there!

If the intruder's death is a result of my protecting my family from harm, that is part of the risk of him breaking into anyone's home. No, I don't have a gun in my home, nor will I ever but should he die under my hand then so be it.

Of course.

Perhaps if more people were, there would be less crime.

Just saying if a criminal knows there is a strong possibility of being shot, they might stay away.

you don't have to KILL anyone to protect anyone. If you have a gun and you have a permit and you use it why shoot the guy in the head to kill the guy? why not shoot him in the leg instead?
