Well, if you come to California, come to Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Novato, Rohnert Park... somewhere around here because we have a GREAT junior college that is not expensive. It has an ENORMOUS ciriculum, and a really high reputation. If you search srjc on google, (for some reason, the website doesn't work), but seach it on google, then you can find the home page and register for the spring semester. I know the broken website makes it seem like my own school pride when I say it's amazing, but you should really check it out because it is a great school. It's cheap, and you will get a really good education.

One thing I have to say is that life will be easier with a high school diploma. I suggest that you stay in high school, but since you said I can't change your mind, srjc would be your best option around here. Another thing, you don't have to be 18 to enroll in the jc. There are high school students who go there, and as a matter of fact, I have some in a couple of my classes. One last thing, you might want to think about is your money situation. Finding a job around here is not that easy. I don't know where you live, and how easy it is there, but I only have a job because I have some connections with a company. Just on a side note, I am planning to move out in the next year or two. I have gone over the number over and over, and I have come up with this: 500 dollars a month when I live with two other people. Remember gas, food, car insurance, tuition if you get your GED at srjc, and rent. It's not easy. I would suggest that you stay where you are, but you said I can't change your mind, so go ahead and ruin your life.

You don't have to spend the time in high school, but running away(and that's what you're doing) is going to create more problems than you have in school now. What are you going to do for money?? Legally that is. California is a very expensive place to live, and to get a legit job you have to give them your SSN and your parents can track you down.
Why not home school or cyber school. You could spend the next 9 months preparing for your GED or getting your diploma and making plans to have a successful life. If you are not in school, but cyber schooling for example you would have plenty of time to work in a field you think you might like or pursue other interests like art or music.

Explore other options.
At 17, if you can't come up with a viable plan that your parents can live with, I don't think you would be very successful taking off. It's going to be 1000 times more difficult than you can imagine.

You need to wait.... California is a very expensive place to live. Look at the local newspaper and figure out how much a place to live would be. Go to the grocery store with your mom are figure out what a week's worth of food is. Ask you family and friends, how much they pay for utilities/cable/gas/water/telephone, etc. Add all this up with no education/no income, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO LIVE???? Most runaways, end up either selling drugs and/or prostitution. Many straight guys have to do that to survive. Most runaways didn't think this is the life they would have. What seems like forever isn't that long. 18 months will pass soon and then maybe you will be able to live on your own. Try a vocation at school, such as electronics/Carpenter/mechanic/hair stylist..

What a shame. Waste away your life. You came this far.

Well, hind sight is 20/20, and when you grow up you think about what a dumbass you were and regret it.

So, run away, make your parents miserable. Let them cry away the nights wondering what happened to their little boy, thinking about what it is that they could have done different. While Mom is laying there wide awake wondering if you are okay, you're just going to have a wonderful time out in California flipping burgers living in some run down apartment because the cost of living is so high. You'll be lucky if you can afford electricity let alone gas for your - oh, wait, you won't be able to afford a car or insurance.

But, your gonna go anyway. So, I just want you to know your making a huge mistake.

don't be an idiot. don't drop out. finish high school so you can get a job for better than minimum wage for the rest of your life and keep some dignity. If you really want out of home life, home town, current school, circle of friends, bf, gf or whatever - get a job now doing anything and work lots so you have and excuse to stay away from whatever is making you miserable. In June 2009 you'll have a diploma and cash in the bank and you can go and do whatever you like. Don't be a quitter now and don't let your friends pressure you into making a poor decision that will effect the rest of your life.

Well why don't you wait for the 9 months and graduate. If you don't have an education it will be very tough and if you are going to California you will probably have to work as a server in a restaurant because those jobs pay good.

So if u do leave work for a restaurant as a server, but at age 17 you might want to get an illegal job like working construction somewhere.

First off how are you gonna provide for yourself? I live in nor cal and it's crazy hard to find a job up here, not sure about southern cal. 2nd why are you waiting till you're 18 to get your GED? You don't have to be 18. And last but not least, you need to think about your future. what's gonna happen with your relationship with your parents? What effect will this have on them?

You are a idiot. Your school is paid for you need to take classes you pay for to take the GED. Youll have to earn a living soon enough just enjoy your last year of semi freedom.

You will be underage and they can have the cops pick you up. Finish school look up a university in California and go there and do a part time job if you want.

you should wait till your 18 because then your dad can't make decisions for you and tell you what to do. you'll be 18 in less than a year, the time will go by quick, trust me. just wait.

the problems youre gonna run into are money - living on your own on minimum wage for nine months isn't exactly easy. And without even a GED...anything over minimum wage is unlikely. Unless you sell drugs (don't do that)
