If I had a time machine I would definitely travel to the future. If you travel to the past you could screw up the present and future in inimaginable ways without even knowing you did.

For example, (I am not pro9-11) If the US was warned about 9-11 our defenses of our country would not be as tight. The office of homeland security was created after 9-11. It has prevented many attacks. Also, traveling to the past would not benefit the present. If you brought a computer back with you it would have no effect because if a computer was already in the past, no one would need to invent it, therefore you would have no computer to give them anyways.

Going to the future has many advantages. Unlike the past you could make a difference. Not by changing something but by preventing something. If you went to the year 3000 and looked up disasters, you could tell the present and prevent it. (making sure the pro's outweighed the con's in the disaster, unlike 9-11 (again not for it))

I know everything I want to know about the Past, but there are a few gaps in my knowledge of the Future. Now, I'm not talking about hundreds or thousands of years. Just a quick glance next Saturday so I'll know which horse to bet on in the seventh.

Past. Because I could go back and come up with some mundane object and everybody would think I was a great inventor.
