My daughter got "Best of Show" last year for her project on how to keep fresh cut flowers freshest the longest. It was called Fresh Cut Flowers - The Test for Longevity. She had 9 different canning jars and filled them all with water. 8 of the jars she added some sort of additive that is said to help keep flowers fresh. She did a lot of Internet research to find different additives that she could use. She did three different tests to see if things like cutting the ends at an angle help at all. She also took daily pictures of each flower and wrote a journal on how the flowers looked every day - she put it all together in a scrapbook. She had a couple of different charts to show the outcome of all the tests. Believe it or not all three tests had the same outcome and you'll be surprised to discover what it is. Good luck and have fun no matter what you decide to do.
FYI - She also took it to a Regional Fair and won 5th place for her grade in the County. She then submitted in the Nationals, however she didn't place - she got an awesome t-shirt though for submitting it.
