my grandmaw and I were discussing how America has gotten fatter, like the average young women's dress size is 12 (13) it used to be 6 (5). I concider a girl around my age (19) to be overweight is a size 7/9+ since I'm like a 1/3 (high motabolism)while she says a size 11+. I'm just curious what other ppl's opinion about this...and if skinny families have warped opions on those things lol

sorry about the clothes size thing, I though it would be more accurate than weight.

i don't go by sizes, but i concider anything over 16 to be overweight. Pant sizes have to do w/ bones (hips), not how fat you are... i come from an average family; my sister and i were always considered skinny, and people who wear smaller sizes than me call me skinny. i actually hate being called skinny. my sister is a 14, and she's considered skinny, i'm a 7 and i'm considered skinny around here.

also, skinny refers to waist... which is where your rib cage is, not where your hips are
(and ya, the sizes went up, humans are evolving, a hundred years ago if you were 5 feet you were considered a giant! also, women used to wear corsetts and thats how they would fit in a size 5.)

that all depends on height, and bone structure. I had a beautiful body when I was a size 11. I'm a size 15/16 now and would do ANYTHING just to be a size 11 again. I would be anorexic looking if I wore a size 7. I think you're grandma is about right. The average American woman wears a size 12.

Pants/dress size does not mean anything in terms of being overweight or overfat. What actually determines body fatness is something known as your 'body fat percentage' This is the percentage of your total body weight that comes from fat.

Beyonce is probably size 7/9 but she is very lean and toned, yet there are skinny girls that wear a size 1/3 that actually are flabby with no muscle tone. It's not about size or even weight, it's about body composition.

I don't think we should judge ppl on size. But is a intresting concept for the matter of fact.I read on TMZ how Jennifer love hewitt quote"I'm not upset for me,but all of the girls out there that are stuggling with their body image.A size 2 is not fat! Nor will ever be.And being a size 0 doesn't make you beautyful..and like all women out there should,I love my body"

So,I basically agree with her and how the media is at fault for the obession of perfection.I don't think anyone is fat ppl come in different shapes and size's what works for some does not work for others. But a size 12 is not big either a 22 even a 18 is okay.

I'm a size 3 and I plan on going into a size 4 I like my curves and stick and bones, nothing will ever hurt me haha=

peace to all shapes and sizes. n hearts<

To me a size 14 is overweight. There are exceptions.

We have a few overweight folks in my family and for some reason I've noticed that during family events they stick together. And the skinny family members talk about them. Mainly my Chatty Chatty Aunts are the ones that talk.

Sigh...

My thougths on this is--don't worry about other peoples weight and what size they wear.

In all honeslty you can't really go by the size they wear since different styles/brands run different from others.

I can buy my daughter a size 1 in one brand but she wears a size 3 in another and yet a size 7 in a different brand.
