If not can anyone tell me what kind of metal it is composed of?

The 1982 50 Centavos from Mexico is made of copper-nickel. The nickel gives it the silver color. The 1982 did not have a very high mintage but is a coin found in dealers world coin boxes for .25 cents. Maybe a lot were saved when people saw the mintage was a 100 million less than the year before. That has happened to U.S. coins also, the 1950-D nickel is an example.

The 50 centavos of 1982 is copper-nickel. The last Mexican silver 50 centavos coins were dated 1951.

no, they stopped using silver for their regular coins in the 1950's, its probably iron if its heavy or steel if its light
