Depends on the jail and the gift you want to send. Jails/Prisons vary on what they restrict. Some may also need for you to be on an approved list before they will allow you to send items. You should call the jail and ask them what they allow and go from there.

Does he smoke? Cigarettes would be nice, also he could trade them for things, I think letters and cards are really important too. I think the person who wrote that a book would be nice was right on.
