I bought my gf a pair of earrings, but the "post" part of them is too wide and hurts her ear. I'm a guy so I don't know anything about this, I'm wondering if it is possible to take this "Post" piece off and put a smaller one on, or perhaps file down the existing "post"?

It should be a simple matter of having a jeweler shave off some of the metal. Look for a jeweler in your area who does repairs. You'll probably also need to buy new backs.

It's odd that these are any size other than the standard...I wonder if you accidentally got earrings that were intended for the upper part of the ear? I think these (as well as jewelry for other bodily piercings) have different sized posts.
